ADORE Hair Dye (African Violet)

Pros: Easy to apply, lasts long, nice color; washes off pretty easily; inexpensive; DOESN'T RUB OFF
Cons: Very liquidy; color not quite what it was supposed to be; not too many colors to choose from
Probably the best so far

Adore is a hair dye targeted primarily to Caribbean and Africans women, however I tried it anyway. I bought African Violet expecting it to be a purplish color, but ended up with a (nice) blue instead. Now to be completely honest I only half-assed dyed my hair this color, so I probably could have done a better job, but even with my laziness the dye has held up pretty well! I still had purple in my hair from Manic Panic when I did my hair, but I'm on week two and it's still pretty much in there. My tips have come off completely (but I made the mistake of not doing my tips first). It still looks pretty nice though! Oh and the best part? It doesn't rub off! <3 I still have half a bottle left and plan on redying my hair this color and then switching to an Aquamarine or Purple Rage by them. I'll be sure to add reviews when I actually try to make it work this time. Last time I just used my hands to put it in and the color washed off my skin without having to scrub hard. That always nice. I definitely recommend this product, just be sure to check the color swatches and not the bottle.

Picture (Kind-of hard with this color):

Also, I tried to bleach it out and it didn't quite work. Which is good if you want long lasting colorage, but bad if you don't.

MANIC Panic (Purple Haze)

Pros: Beautiful color; easy to wash off and clean-up after
Cons: Literally rubs off; dyes pillow cases; lasts maybe one shampooing
Like it, but could be better

I decided to use Manic Panic Purple Haze last semester and was pleased with the color. I bleached my hair beforehand and the color came out really nicely. I loved it right away. The dye washed out easily and didn't stain TOO badly. I was able to wash it off without straining my wrist too much and the dye practically cleans up after itself when you wash it out. The dye is creamy and easy to apply and smells nice. Unfortunately, it doesn't tend to last very long. I had to redye my hair once a week in order to keep it in. It literally rubbed off. I'd see spots on my hair where the blonde underneath showed through. I wasn't too fond of that and it destroyed my pillow cases. My dad wasn't happy about that. It's relatively expensive for a dye that lasts a week. The bottle (if you have short hair like I do) can last two applications. It doesn't really fade that much, it just comes off. I tried the AMPed version and didn't have much better luck. So I recommend it, but I've had better weird color dyes.

SPLAT Hair Dye Blue Envy and Crimson Obsession

Blue Envy:
Pros: Fades nicely, Doesn't stain too badly, lasts a decent amount of time, dyes over natural hair, doesn't rub off
Cons: Bleeds a lot in shower, very liquidy; takes FOREVER to rinse out
Like it, but don't love it.

For Splat hair dye, I only bleached my tips. It was the first time I ever used it, and I tried to dye my hair myself at first and that didn't end too well, so I had my friend do it for me next time and it came out much better. First off, the dye was very liquidy, which I am not a fan of. I prefer creams, but fine whatever. I used it and I made a bit of a mess, but it wasn't too bad to clean up. Washing it out after dying it, however, is a completely different story. It took me close to an hour to wash it all out and that was a pain. The color came out pretty nice. It wasn't quite what I had expected, but if I had bleached it would have turned out better. Regardless of the fact, the dye was nice. I liked the color even if it was a little dark. The dye itself lasted a decent while, but every time I showered my hair bled (even when I didn't shampoo). Which was kind-of annoying, but it's the price you pay for awesome hair. The dye lasted maybe two weeks, but faded quickly into a grey-color (which was not ugly). It's a pretty good brand in my opinion. This color at least, but there are better.

Crimson Obsession:
I was really excited for this color. It's so beautiful and I wanted it really badly, however the color did not turn out even remotely close to what I wanted. Which was very disappointing. It came out a purplish color and I really was unhappy with it. It turned my face completely red (I almost freaked out because I couldn't get it off!) Eventually I redyed over it to get a better color. I don't have any photos of this one since I didn't like the color at all.

Why am I here?

Like most young adults (and teenagers and awesome people in general) I have taken to dying my hair bizarre colors (Blue and purple so far, but I am still branching out!) I've used a variety of products and figured I'd add my input into the mix. I've used three different products so far and will give as much information on them as possible.

Thanks for reading!
